How to check if a website is down
A repeatable way to tell whether a site is down for everyone or just for you.
Before you assume an outage, rule out your own connection. Then confirm from the outside with an independent check.
Is it you or them?
Try the site on a different network — mobile data instead of Wi-Fi. If it loads there, the problem is likely local: DNS, a VPN, an extension, or your router.
Check from the outside
An independent uptime checker requests the URL from a server that is not on your network and reports the status code and response time. If it fails from there too, the problem is the site.
Make it automatic
Manual checks only help while you remember to run them. A monitor checks on a schedule and alerts you the moment a site stops responding, day or night.
